Knitting & Crochet Project Packing Checklist

Taking your knitting or crochet project to a cafe, a craft group or a day out? Start with the project you actually want to work on, then gather its yarn, pattern and tools in one place. Use this short packing checklist before you leave.

Knitting and crochet project packing checklist

  1. Your current project. Choose one work in progress and decide which part you plan to work on while you are out.
  2. The yarn you need. Pack the colours needed for that section. Keep the yarn label with your supplies so you can check the fibre, colour and care information later.
  3. Your pattern and progress notes. Bring a printed copy or save a copy you can open offline. Mark your current row or round before packing.
  4. The right needles or hook. Check that you have the size used for your project. Keep pointed tools safely contained during transport.
  5. A small pouch for loose notions. Use a pouch you already own for items such as stitch markers, a tape measure and a yarn needle. Pack only the tools your next steps require.
  6. A quick return-home check. Before leaving your seat, check for loose tools and yarn ends, record where you stopped, and put the project back together.

Choose a project bag around what you carry

Lay out your project and supplies before choosing a bag. A compact project and a large garment need different amounts of space. Keep drinks and food separate from your yarn, and use your own small pouches when you want to separate loose items or multiple colours.
